In this week’s column I give some tips on managing road trips with young kids.
The best thing about travelling — seeing new places, doing things out of the ordinary — are also the most challenging with kids. Casting aside normal routines and familiar surroundings can make for great memories, but they’re also the ingredients for major meltdowns.
We did an epic road trip last summer and lots of smaller day and weekend trips. The key is to prepare like crazy and manage expectations. Nothing ever goes perfectly, and if you’re like us you’ll probably end up trashing a restaurant at some point. But sometimes those end up being the memories too.
